Cultural Diversity and Global Exchanges:
An International Comparative Literature Forum
Letter of Invitation
Dear Dr. ____________:
Philosophy and social sciences are epitomes of the development level of a nation: its thinking capacity, spirituality, civilization, as well as the prosperity and harmony of the society. The responsibility of New Humanities is precisely to enhance the cultural vivacity and influences of the Chinese nation.
The mission of New Humanities of our current age is to promote creative transformations of traditional Chinese culture, to encourage its innovative evolutions, and in the meanwhile to study perceptively and extensively foreign languages and literatures, with methods including translation, comparison, and conversation. The significance of such a program is to achieve mutual acknowledgement, mutual understanding, and even mutual enlightenment between diverse cultures and global exchanges.
Comparative Literature focuses on research methodologies that are interdisciplinary and cross-cultural, and plays a leading role in knowledge production amongst New Humanities. The forum calls for international and comparative scholars to actively participate in the construction of New Humanities: be daring, be revolutionary, and be a veracious voice of the new age!
With that in mind, we take great pleasure in inviting you to the conference “Cultural Diversity and Global Exchanges: An International Comparative Literature Forum” to be held at Shanghai Normal University (SHNU) on the 7th-9th of April.
