Learning and Motivation Beyond the Classroom: Pitfalls and Potentials
细分领域
This special issue calls for papers that apply various learning and motivation theories, such as activity theory, reinforcement theory, associative theories, and self-determination theory to illuminate the factors influencing learning and motivation outside traditional educational environments. For example, authors may explore how reinforcement schedules, feedback mechanisms, or goal orientations affect learning and motivation in online learning contexts. Alternatively, they might investigate the application of associative learning principles within informal educational settings. The goal is to provide insights into how these theoretical frameworks can inform our understanding of learning processes and motivational dynamics in diverse and unconventional educational landscapes.Submissions should foreground learning and motivation theories within their rationale, ensuring that the theoretical framework is intricately woven into the research question, methodology, and analysis. For example, a study examining motivation in online learning platforms must articulate how established motivation theories from scholarly literature shape the study's design and the interpretation of its results. The realm of learning and motivation outside the traditional classroom is broad and complex; however, contributions must maintain a narrow focus that resonates with stakeholders in second language education. This may include probing into specific elements of non-classroom learning settings, such as the impact of feedback in online education or the significance of social interactions in informal learning scenarios. In essence, submissions should remain tightly aligned with the central theme of learning theory and not diverge into overly expansive or tangential topics. The special issue is open to original research articles, review articles, case studies, and position papers that are pertinent to learning and motivation in non-traditional educational contexts.
